MICKEY and Minnie Mouse are being ferried round the streets of Middlewich today by a farm tractor.

Children have waved and cheered as the sleigh drove past their homes, collecting donations of food for the Salvation Army.

Middlewich Round Table has been inundated with gifts and want to thank everyone for their generosity.

A special thank you this afternoon goes to McColls on Poplar Avenue for donating bags of shopping.

Life-sized Mickey and Minnie mouse will be waving to children as volunteers pick up tins of fruit, vegetables, pasta, rice, cereals and any non perishable food.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse have been waving to children as Middlewich Round Table collects food donations for the Salvation Army

The sleigh will be travelling around town until 4pm today after completing a two-day collection.

Children's pictures of rainbows and flags decorate the sleigh as it took off on VE Day.

Josh Hicks, from Middlewich Round Table, said: "The work the Salvation Army do is absolutely fantastic. They are low on food and the demand is greater than ever during the coronavirus pandemic.

"The Salvation Army doesn't have any food drop off points at supermarkets and can sometimes be a little bit forgotten. They definitely need our support, especially at this difficult time."

Any donations, little or large, will be greatly appreciated.

Residents are asked to leave food donations in plastic bags at the end of their drive or path and not to approach helpers on the sleigh.

Volunteers will be abiding by social distancing guidelines at all times.

Middlewich Round Table would like to thank Moretons contractors, Steve Gleave and Duncan Fitz-Gibbons for their generous support loaning farm tractors.
