A WINSFORD mum has plucked up the courage to have her head shaved.

Mum-of-two Sue Johnson has set up a JustGiving page and has already raised more than £1,000 for the NHS.

"Due to the coronavirus outbreak, I can't get to the hairdresser and the hairdresser can't get to me," said Sue, 60, a specialist teaching assistant at Middlewich High School. "So I decided it would be best if there was no hair to dress."

Son Ben, 29, will be shaving Sue's locks off in the cul-de-sac outside her home in Darnhall at midday on Saturday, May 16 as husband Brian captures the dramatic hair cut on Facebook.

"My kind son has volunteered to do it," said Sue, who signs for deaf pupils at the school's hearing impairment unit.

"I thought nice to be to be able to do something for everyone in the NHS. It's a way of showing our appreciation."

Sue, who also has a daughter Lizzie, 26, said she usually has her hair styled in a bob.

"It's more than nine weeks now since I've had it cut," she said. "I'm not having a number one, it will be completely gone. I am a little bit nervous but it will soon grow back.

"If it is fine weather, we'll do it outside. I've let the neighbours know so, as long as they are social distanced, they can watch. I'm not one for all this exhibitionism but it's not for me, it is for those people out there in the NHS.

"It's a little bit of an event for people to have a laugh. I've ordered a bandana. When I sent a What's App to my friends the 'd' had been left out and they were all asking me why I was going to be wearing a banana on my head.

"We've had some fun."
