YES, Brexit is a major issue which will have consequences and opportunities, but it is clear that it will take years to sort out.

In the meantime Theresa May and her administration is being let off the hook in terms of what is happening to our public services.

We know that the NHS is in deep trouble; not only is it underfunded but it is also under the cosh because the Government refuses to give local councils sufficient money to look after our elderly residents.

Far too many of our senior citizens are blocking NHS beds instead of being cared for by properly-funded councils.

Conservative-run Surrey is seeking a 15 per cent council tax hike to fund social care but this is not the answer.

Social care should not become a postcode lottery, the Government must deal with this major crisis.

They must also put a stop to the plans to cut school budgets.

Cheshire schools already receive £400 a year less, per pupil, than the national average, and if carried through their plans will damage the prospects of our children and grandchildren for many years to come.

The emergency services and prisons are also unable to provide the gold standards we deserve as the world’s fifth largest economy.

Don’t blame your council for the state of local services.

For years councils have been cut to the bone and the latest £57 million cut means even more job losses.

One thing for sure though, is that there is no sense in looking for simplistic, populist and nationalistic solutions offered by the likes of Trump and right-ofcentre parties like UKIP.
