Steve Pickup comments after Northwich Vics 1 Wolverhampton Casuals 1

They drew 1-1 against visitors who were reduced to 10 men midway through the second half.

“I thought we were the better team first half, made some good chances and didn’t convert them,” said Pickup, whose side host Dudley Town in the Midland Football League Premier Division tonight, kick-off 8pm.

“Second half I thought again we were the better team and had some very good chances.

“We dad a blatant penalty turned down in the first half which should have been given but wasn’t.

“And then we scored, deservedly so, and then they went down to 10 men and if I’m honest when they went down to 10 men they were the better team for 10 to 15 minutes which was disappointing because we didn’t keep hold of the ball well enough.

“But we had enough chances again to score half a dozen. Good chances, got in good areas where we’ve not delivered the final killer pass or killer cross.

“And then we’ve got done by a really bad goal from my perspective.

“We were gambling when we hadn’t even got possession of the ball and we let the right-back run past us literally through switching off and he put the ball in and we conceded.

“From that perspective, that’s very disappointing and that’s something I will address.

“But we have to finish chances. It’s as simple as that.

“When you’re on top and creating as many chances as we are, and we’ve created chances no matter who we’ve played against, you have to put the ball in the back of the net or you have to convert a good percentage of those because if you don’t you’re going to get punished at the other end.

“We have to work for our goals and we gave a cheap one away literally through lack of concentration and switching off so from that perspective I’m very disappointed but I think we should just have been better with the ball when they went down to 10 men and stretched the pitch a bit more and kept it, but we didn’t.

“We didn’t lose the game but we should have won it.”
