THEY have done it – Winnington Park Hockey Club women’s team are champions.

Park headed to Liverpool on Saturday to play bottom-of-the-table Sefton knowing that a victory would secure the North West Women’s Division Three West title with four games to go.

It was surely never in doubt.

Park went into the game full of confidence with having a 100 per cent win record, having secured victories in all 17 previous games this season and scoring 71 goals in the process.

They delivered a 4-1 win and champagne corks were flying at full-time as the women celebrated their success.

Any pre-match nerves were cast aside when Shandy Moloney-Pugh scored the first goal from open play.

Jaz Barlow got the second from a short corner and Nic Hall added a third before Sefton scored from a short corner.

Moloney-Pugh netted her second and late into the second half to conclude the scoring.

Park’s women are only one of three teams in the North West that currently have 100 per cent records.

With the league secured, the team now want to maintain that 100 per cent record for the next four matches.

Watch the team's celebrations after being crowned champions on Saturday:

They visit third-from-bottom Chester thirds on Saturday.

Park women’s seconds lost for the first time this season in the second game of a double-header weekend.

They beat Crewe Vagrants thirds 4-0 at home on Saturday then lost 1-0 at Alderley Edge sixths on Sunday.

Park knew that victory in the second game would enable them to take over top spot in North West Women’s Division Five South (Central) but in a tough match they never got the rub of the green, with a number of key decisions going against them.

The women now have four matches left and are one point behind the leaders Sandbach.

Park men’s first team are six matches unbeaten after a 2-2 draw at home to Welsh side Eirias.

In what was a scrappy game, Park took the lead through a textbook drag flick by man-of-the-match Oli Wilkes which found the roof of the net.

Park then doubled their lead in the first half when Nathan Gee added to his tally for the season after some good build-up play.

The second half was scrappy and Park were punished for giving the ball away cheaply on multiple occasions.

Park men’s seconds needed a win at Wilmslow to go three points clear in their division.

They won 8-0 with man-of-the-match Harrison Austin bagging a hat-trick, while the other goals came from Dec Lamb, George Gray, Harry Garner, Mark Leigh and Mark Frisk.

Against a well organised Whitchurch team, Park men’s thirds were 2-0 down at half time.

Park took control of play after the break but could not find the back of net.

Goalkeeper Jamie Bell was awarded man of the match with some fantastic saves that kept Park in the hunt.

Park’s mixed team beat Wigan 2-1 in the England Hockey Tier 2 Knockout Championships. Loz Miller and Jaz Barlow scored.

The Park juniors were also in action, with the Badgers winning 2-1 against Chester thanks to goals coming from player-of-the-match Olle Curry and Leah Smith.

The Beavers team were also at home to Oxton, losing 8-1 with Parks’s goal coming from Mikey Munday.
