TWO Vale Royal Athletics Club runners contested the Inter-Services Championships at RAF Halton near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire.

Andrew Miles, competing for the Police, crossed the line fifth while Clara Pettitt, representing the Civil Service, finished 12th in the women’s race.

The club’s runners featured in the third fixture of the Manchester Area Cross Country League at Tatton Park, Knutsford.

Sam Conkie and Rhys Bowden both enjoyed top 10 finishes in their respective races.

Sarah Murphy achieved the same, coming seventh in the senior women’s race and was first over 45 woman out of 350 that were in the race.

Anna Begbie was third VF40 and Debbie Broad first VF55.

The veterans team of three was first out of 77 teams, finishing ahead of Sale Harriers, Altrincham and Chorley Runners.

Charlie Weaver was Vale Royal’s first senior man home in a field of 450 athletes.

The four who followed him, Rob Olliver, Gareth Williams, Rob Roe and Colin Price, combined to form a four-man veterans team which came 18th in a field of 55 teams.
