WINSFORD Swim Team members added to their growing medal tally at the Swim England North West Summer Championships on Sunday.

After five sessions of competition, they have now amassed 13.

Jay Cushen took silver in the under 14s boys’ 1,500m freestyle, timing 17.35.50 to finish as runner-up to Pierce Greening (Cockermouth).

A trio of clubmates won bronze gongs at Manchester Aquatic Centre the same day.

Lottie Howman classified third in the under 13s girls’ 800m freestyle in 9.44.35, a feat matched by Abbie Christopherson in the under 14s category for the same stroke and distance.

She timed 9.40.79.

Meanwhile Henry Oliver continued a fine run of form by claiming bronze in the under 15s boys’ 1,500m freestyle – his fourth top eight placing of the championships.

“It was great to be represented in almost every heat of the distance events,” said head coach Dan Goodwin.

“We had 24 swimmers taking part in relays too, which shows we’re continuing a tradition at Winsford of producing some fine swimmers for the longer formats.”

Winsford’s best relay result on the day was fifth in the over 17s girls’ 4x100m medley, with Izz Burton, Georgia Farr, Georgia Williams and Ellie O’Grady completing their quartet.

Ethan Jones, Josh Wilson, Finn Armitt and Ryan Wheeler were sixth in the under 16s boys’ 4x100m medley.

Winsford recorded 10 top-eight finishes across both individual and relay events on the day.

The North West Summer Championships concludes this weekend when age group swimmers, between 11 and 14-years-old, compete during four sessions over Saturday and Sunday.

Jay Cushen, in the over 17s boys’ 100m butterfly, is their only gold-medallist to date.

“Only a small percentage of club swimmers satisfy tough entry criteria, and to make a final takes some doing,” Goodwin told the Guardian earlier this month.

“That puts into perspective what swimmers at Winsford continue to achieve in the pool.”

Meanwhile Winsford’s Oscar Jolliffe was first to finish in his category over a 1.5km course during the MediaCityUK Swim Challenge at Salford Quays in Manchester on Saturday morning, timing 22.45.
