IAN Street says his side’s points tally should be bigger after 1874 Northwich drew, for the second time in as many matches, at Irlam on Tuesday night.

It means fans of the newly-formed club must wait a little longer to savour a first success in the North West Counties League’s second tier.

The manager believes one should have arrived already.

He said: “We’ve tossed away four points, at least that’s how it feels.

“The players have been told that we need to put teams to bed, as we should have done Oldham at the weekend.

“I’ll be patient, and of course it’s still early days for everybody. I do want to see us take some of the chances that we create though.”

His side scored first at Irlam, Dean McGregor converting a penalty with little more than a quarter hour left.

The hosts made sure of share of the spoils when Liam Pennington, guilty of a foul to concede the spot kick minutes earlier, converted from close range after Paul Lynch’s free kick had been headed back across goal by Steve Mills.

Street said: “I thought we looked set to see out the game after going in front.

“It was a poor goal for us to concede, that’s if it even was a free kick. Our marking was sloppy though, and it’s annoying that the back four had hardly been put under any pressure until then.

“I can’t complain too much about the performance, but we do risk being punished if we’re not a bit more clinical.”

1874 Northwich travel next to pace-setting Daisy Hill, victors against Rochdale Town and then Atherton LR in their opening matches, this Saturday, kick off 3pm.
