STUDENTS from Middlewich Taekwondo School returned home with medals after competing for the first time at a World Championship.
Luke Metcalf and Tia Heath-Jones, both trained by Mark Spruce, won bronze gongs during the Taekwondo International event at the SkyDome arena in Coventry.
Former County High School Leftwich pupil Metcalf, now 22, finished third in the red belt men’s sparring competition for middleweights (under 80kg), repeating the trick in the tag team category.
Fellow first-timer Tia, aged seven, picked up a bronze medal in the green belt girls’ peewee tag team sparring contest.
Meanwhile Tia’s aunt Vicky Jones, from Northwich Taekwondo Club, suffered a narrow defeat to eventual bronze medal-winner Katie Elliott in the second round of the black belt ladies’ sparring competition.
