A PUB landlord has donated money to buy drugs for the police.

Dave Hughes, landlord at The Plough in Whitegate, bought an innovative ‘drug box’ to help officers educate children on the dangers of illegal substances.

Insp Dave Snasdell, head of police in Winsford, said: “The boxes are sealed and contain a range of drugs from magic mushrooms to heroin.

“Officers can now go into schools with this box and show it to the children, and explain to them the dangers they pose and the way they can ruin lives.

“And it isn’t just illegal drugs – we also educate them on the abuse of alcohol and prescription drugs.”

Mr Hughes paid £350 for the drug box, and Insp Snasdell is delighted the community is supporting the fight on drugs.

He said: “Drugs are a major issue, so by educating children from an early age it gives them a much better chance in the future.

“We can only fight drugs successfully with the support of the community so we are extremely grateful for donations like this.

“Education on drugs is part of the curriculum anyway, but we want to do all we can to help schools with that. This drug box is a great tool and makes it easier to teach the children, along with videos that show the way they devastate lives.”

PC Di Woodward has already made progress educating children in Winsford schools, and Insp Snasdell is keen to continue her good work.

He said: “Di does a wonderful job and makes a huge difference in the community.

“Help from the community is vital for us to continue this work, and I would like to thank Mr Hughes at The Plough for making this donation.”
