A CASUALTY was trapped in a vehicle and a dog was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on the M56.

Emergency service received reports of the crash on the eastbound carriageway at 4.53pm on Friday, April 19, between junctions 9 and 10, near Antrobus.

Three cars and a van were involved in the incident, and fire crews from Warrington, Birchwood, Runcorn, Frodsham, Knutsford and Lymm all attended.

Firefighters worked to release a trapped casualty from one of the vehicles.

An animal rescue unit from Bollington was also called after reports of two dogs stuck inside one of the cars.

Sadly, one of the dogs was killed.

Traffic was heavy in the area as two lanes were closed, but reports from National Highways North West suggest it has now cleared.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two dogs were in one of the cars, hence the deployment of the animal rescue unit.

“Sadly one dog is deceased.”
