A FOODBANK has found a new home.

Middlewich and District has officially moved, having been made to leave its previous base at the Old Middlewich Police Station on Queen Street.

Now located at the Holly House Estate on Middlewich Road, Byley, the charity can continue offering invaluable support to local families.

A spokesperson said: “We are now in our new home, fully settled in and organised thanks to a huge effort from the whole team.

“Cleaning, moving, lifting, carrying, driving, packing boxes, making calls, arrangements, you name it, they did it and wow it was worth it.

“The space is so much more suited to our needs.

“It really is everything we hoped it would be. Thanks to the efforts of all our supporters.”

Middlewich and District Foodbank had been distributing emergency food parcels from its Queen Street base for six years.

However, at the end of 2022 trustees learned that Cheshire Police were unable to renew their lease as they needed the space themselves, meaning the foodbank would have to move.

Over the next year-and-a-half trustees set about finding a new home to meet all their needs – namely 2,500 square feet of space with electricity, water, toilets and parking.

Speaking ahead of the move which took place in March, trustee Amy Townsend said: “We’ve been in the centre of Middlewich for a long time, so it’s going to be a bit of a change.

“Cheshire Police didn’t put any pressure on us. They gave us plenty of time to find the right place, but we knew we were living on borrowed time.

“The place we’ve secured now is absolutely ideal. The square footage is generous for our needs, and our new landlord has been amazing.”

As the location is not in Middlewich town centre, the way the foodbank operates will be slightly different.

Moving forward, there will be three collection points for clients to collect their food parcels.

These will be at Middlewich Methodist Church in Booth Lane on Fridays, Victoria Hall in Civic Way on Tuesdays, and the Community Centre in Holmes Chapel every first Thursday of the month.
