“Being part of Guardian Camera Club inspires my photography”

This week, Lesley Haynes shares some of her favourite photographs.

Lesley is originally from Macclesfield but now lives in Barnton and her love of photography has grown since she retired four years ago.

When and why did you take up photography?

I've always liked taking photos but even more so since I retired in 2019. I took photos back in my childhood during the days of cameras and film and I loved sending the films off to get them developed. It was always fascinating to see what came back! I became interested again about 15 years ago when I got a digital camera and really liked being able to take action shots of my husband windsurfing. Then, when mobile phones had cameras on them, it was so much easier to take photos. I'm out every morning, with my husband, walking our dog and have always got my phone/camera with me to hopefully catch that one good shot.

What do you love about taking pictures?

I love the challenge it gives me trying to get a good picture.

Where is your favourite place to take pictures and why?

I enjoy taking pictures anywhere near the water. There is something magical about capturing reflections on the water when it’s still and the light is right.

What is your favourite subject matter and why?

I love taking photos of wildlife. Wild animals can be quite a challenge though! And, of course, I love photographing my dog!

What do you enjoy about being part of our Camera Club on Facebook?

I enjoy seeing what other people take photos of as this then inspires me to try and capture something similar. It’s nice to be able to see other members’ images and what they’ve managed to photograph.

New beginnings

If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?

My aim is to capture a swan with a cygnet on its back but I would love to take a good photo of a kingfisher.
