The Electric Church record store and cocktail bar announces closure

The Electric Church in Winsford has announced its impending closure.

It comes amid “unprecedented hurdles” and despite many efforts to revise the Over Square business.

A post announcing the decision on the venue’s Facebook page read: “It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the closure of The Electric Church.

“We have had some great times over the near seven-year operation of the business.

“Our customers have brought life through our doors and in turn we hope we have done the same for you all over the years.

“The Electric Church has seen many revisions, trying to stay ahead of unprecedented hurdles but the time has come to take a step back.

“Thank you to those that have offered their continued support.

“We will be open for a short while and any support during this time would be greatly appreciated.

“Here's to new beginnings and the end of dark days.”

Winsford-born-and-bred Jimi Ray Coppack began collecting records at age 12 when he inherited his mother’s collection.

In 2017, he opened The Electric Church, initially just as a record store.

Since then, the business has evolved, first with the addition of a café.

In December of last year, a cocktail bar was opened at the venue with Jimi saying it had become “unreliable” to rely purely on record sales.

However, little over a month after launching the cocktail bar, the decision was made to close The Electric Church altogether.
