A HOUSING association is considering how best to rebuild a property after a supermarket delivery van crashed into one of its buildings.

Emergency services were called to Longcross Court in Middlewich on Thursday February 1 after an Asda van got stuck in the entrance underpass.

The crash caused structural damage to the building, with one of the residents forced to vacate their home for the time being.

Regenda Homes, who own the property, are now looking at how best to rebuild.

A spokesperson said: “We are currently reviewing options of how best to rebuild the property affected by an incident involving an Asda delivery van on February 1.

“This will be done in consultation with residents.”

Emergency services were called to the scene off Lewin Street at around 4.20pm.

One person was assessed at the scene for injuries by North West Ambulance Service staff but did not need to be taken to hospital.

Residents of seven of the flats spent the weekend at a hotel, with all but one having now returned to their homes.

The Asda van has been removed, with supports installed to ensure the building is safe.

“We received confirmation from the local authority and our own structural surveyors that, with the exception of the home directly impacted, all properties have been declared safe for residents to move back into,” said a Regenda Homes spokesperson.

“We are working with the remaining resident, whose property was badly affected by the incident concerning an Asda delivery van on Thursday, to ensure their immediate and longer-term housing needs are met.”

This is the second time such an incident has occurred at Longcross Court.

In May 2015, an ambulance got stuck in the underpass, again causing structural damage to the property.

A neighbouring resident said at the time that it had been 'an accident waiting to happen'.

However, when asked if they would be looking to improve signage to stop such an incident from happening again, Regenda Homes suggested the current provisions were enough.

A spokesperson said: “The visible signage on the entrance to the building clearly states the height restrictions for vehicles.”
