CHILDREN at Greenbank Residential School in Greenbank Lane were given money for magic cars' after a donation from employees at a Northwich company.

Employees at Brunner Mond make voluntary contributions from their wages through a charitable trust.

They gave the school a cheque for £410 a few weeks ago so it could buy 10 Didi' cars in yellow, red, blue and purple and pink that can travel up to six mph.

Brunner Mond is a manufacturer and supplier of soda ash and associated alkaline products.

It has a manufacturing plant in both Winnington Lane, Winnington and Griffiths Road, Lostock.

The firm's health and safety co ordinator Mr Burdell said: "We like to contribute to any local cause."

PA for the school Dot Beresford said: "We're really grateful to the company for giving us money to buy the magic' cars and it is absolutely wonderful that the children can get something like this that's fun in the winter or the summer.

"They can really enjoy it and Mr Burdell can be a friend of the school because of this."

The cars run by moving the steering wheel to the left or right so the two driving wheels can find pushing power against one another.

The school has set up a race track for children in the school hall and each class will take turns in using the cars.

Employees have previously provided money for football kits for children at the school so Mrs Beresford asked him for fundraising ideas and he suggested providing money for the cars.
