PLANS have been revealed for a £100million scheme which will transform Winsford.

The Winning Winsford scheme will include six major projects that will boost education, tourism and leisure as well as homes and business development.

Clr Mark Stocks, chairman of the Winsford Regeneration Group, said: "These are exciting times for Winsford.

"This is the result of five years of work from the regeneration group and it has worked very well."

The six parts of the scheme are the Learning Zone on the old gasholder site, an all-age school to incorporate both the high schools, Lifestyle Centre currently being built at the sports complex, development of the waterfront, preservation of the flashes, and transforming the town park.

Vale Royal Borough Council is now appealing for people to get involved in the consultation process and offer their views on how they would like to see the town develop in the future.

Learning Zone: This will be built on the former gasworks site next to town park and has already been granted planning permission.

The £10million centre is being led by Mid Cheshire College and will provide courses for 450 students aged between 14 and 19 as well as adult education.

The centre is being built at the gateway to the town and is a flagship building for the future of the town.

It is due to open in 2009.

All-Age School: The All-Age School will see both Woodford Lodge and Verdin high schools combined on one site.

There will also be some of the town's primary schools in the building although which ones will not be known until the Transforming Learning Communities (TLC) review is completed.

Both Hebden Green and Oaklands schools, which provide for children with specialist educational needs, will also move to the all-age school.

The location has not be confirmed but a strong possibility is Verdin fields.

Lifestyle Centre: The £10.8million Lifestyle Centre is already being built at the sports complex at the Drumber.

The fact it is already under construction is seen as evidence that the Winning Winsford scheme is more than plans on paper.

The centre will replace the civic hall once it is open and will include an events hall, pool, squash courts, dance studio, gym, cyber café, bar and conference facilities.

Waterfront: The waterfront is seen as a hugely underdevloped part of the town with huge potential.

Consultants are now developing plans to regenerate the waterfront with leisure, employment and housing.

It is hoped the framework for the future of the waterfront areas will be completed early next year following a public consultation.

Flash preservation: Winsford Flashes are used by a number of organisations, including angling and sailing, but dropping water levels are threatening their future.

Work on a bund, led by Winsford Flash Sailing Club, has already started, to prevent the flashes from silting up.

The flashes are one of the most picturesque parts of the town and it is hoped once the future is secured it will help boost tourism.

Town Park: A study is taking place to improve links with Town Park and the rest of the town. Proposals include raising the level of the park as well as residential and retail units to improve the look of the High Street. Trees will also be chopped down to make the area lighter and improve surveillance so people feel safer as they walk through the park.
