A MAN believes a child will be seriously hurt in a troublesome walkway.

Eric Hulse, of Delamere Street, is calling for a 20ft fence in the passage between his house and the new Spar petrol station to be taken down.

He said: "I saw a boy, who can't have been much older than 10, at the top of the fence and his friend at the bottom shaking it.

"If he had lost his grip he would have had a 20ft fall onto concrete so he would've been seriously injured."

The petrol station is currently being built and Eric believes now is the time to make the walkway safe.

He said: "It is a big wire fence and a young lad will want to climb it.

"It needs to be taken down because it is dangerous and with all the work going on there right now it makes sense to do it at the same time."

Eric is also being plagued by anti-social behaviour in the passage.

He said: "The walkway attracts youths and they cause a lot of problems down there.

"They have smashed in my concrete fence and now I have had to fix it and reinforce it myself.

"This is a concrete fence so to smash it they would have had to have used a sledgehammer or something like that.

"The fact they have gone to so much trouble to cause this damage makes it even worse.

"But the walkway is perfect from their point of view because it is out of the way and there is a small wall for them to sit on.

"The wall needs to be taken away and that may just make it a bit better for people living around here."
