FOUR pupils from Hebden Green School were treated like VIPs when they got the chance to meet some players from the Widnes Vikings.

On Saturday, July 14, Justin Bird, Jake Smith, Noah Purselove and Xander were the most recent schoolchildren to be treated to a behind the scenes look at life with a professional rugby club.

As part of their Rinnai UK Dream Maker Initiative, the boys were entertained in an executive box and met some of their favourite players, Chris Dean, Rhys Hanbury and Jordan Johnstone.

Jake said: “My Dad and I really enjoyed watching the game together and going on the pitch.

“Watching the game from the box was amazing as, being in my wheelchair, I cannot always see but this meant I could see all the action.”

The boys and their family saw the trophy room, met other VIPs and had a buffet meal before watching the match against Hull in the executive box.

Before the game, the group from Hebden Green were led onto the pitch to play.

Noah said: “I liked going onto the pitch and throwing the balls around with my family and friends. Having the box was good too because we could watch the game and chat together.”

It was here that the Vikings presented each boy with a signed rugby ball and received a signed pair of school shorts.

Charlotte Jakeman, education officer at the Vikings, said: “Everyone involved had a brilliant time, and it was great to see the smiles on their faces throughout the day.

“On behalf of everyone at Widnes Vikings, we hope they left the ground with unforgettable memories following a fun-filled afternoon.”
