A Winsford venue is hoping to avoid closing by attracting new visitors.

Meadow Bank Social Club, in School Road, is holding a ‘fun fest’ on Sunday, August 27, to raise funds for the St Luke’s Hospice and the Winsford Youth and Communtiy Forum as well as attract new visitors to the venue.

Winsford Town Mayor, Cllr Mike Kennedy, will open the event at 12pm and it will run until 5pm.

Suzanne Badder, 44, from the club committee, said: “The aim of the day is to get the social club on the map again.

“They are a dying breed and we need new members to prevent it from closing.

“We’ve struggled to attract new people recently partly because we’re quite far away. So this fun day is to get the word out and about and hopefully raise a lot of money for some great causes as well.

“I live in the area and have been going to the club for a number of years. It would be sad to see it go.

“If it wasn’t here then the nearest place after it would be about three miles away so it’s just something for people to do as well.

“We’re still going to cater for our regulars but this is a call to the young people of Winsford to come and try out the social club.”

Activities on the day include bouncy castles, slides, pirate obstacle course and various sweet and cake stalls.

The venue will also be making its functions rooms free for people who want to book parties.

The Meadow Bank funfest will be an annual event.

The fun day will be held on the park opposite Winsford Salt Mine in Bradford Road, CW7 2PA.
