A NEW Salt Queen has been chosen for Winsford for 2017/18.

Following an extensive recruitment process, Amy Morton has been selected to represent the town and will be crowned during the opening of the Salt Fair on Thursday, September 14 in Dene Drive car park.

The Winsford resident said: “It’s such an honour to be appointed as the new Salt Queen.

“I’m aware of the history and tradition behind the role and I hope I can represent the town and do some good work during my time in office.”

The tradition was revived by the council in 2012 to form part of the annual Salt Fair and Regatta.

Cllr Steve Smith, chair of the Salt Fair committee, said: “We are so pleased to be able to appoint Amy as the Salt Queen.

“She is very enthusiastic and energetic and I am sure she will do a great job.”
