WEAVERHAM was blessed with blazing sunshine to accompany this year’s annual Carnival and Rose Fete.

Now in its 91st year, scores of people lined the streets to watch the procession from 1pm.

Later in the day Lakehouse Field saw royalty from around Cheshire enter the fray, before this year's Rose Queen, Keira Lowndes, took her throne.

Keira, who attends Weaverham High School, was joined by the Rose Queen’s attendants, Kelsea Lowndes and Natalie Shaw, and Teigan Ryder, the bouquet bearer.

Kelsea Lowndes and Natalie Shaw were also the train bearers.

Keira was joined by prince consort, crown bearer and sceptre bearers are Corey, Mason and Caiden Lowndes respectively.

Barbara Eames, chairman of the Weaverham Rose Feat committee, said: “It was a beautiful day. Keira was sat there by me and she kept saying, ‘I’m frightened’.

“I said, get on that field, you are fine, you are beautiful.

“Everything went well for her, most of her family was in the retinue as well and her mum did a great job of the float.”

The herald was Kenzie Joe Lowndes, the junior queen was Kaitlyn Pereira, and the junior queen’s attendants were Caitlin Jackson and Freya Seymour.

The princess was Molly Owen, the rosebud was Lydia-mai Johnson, the fairy queen was Millie Seymour and the fairies were Poppy Bennett, Halle Scott, Chloe Fisher and Becky Towers.

The lady-in-waiting was Leah Butler.

Families enjoyed a range of activities, including a fun fair. The Weaverham Car show was also held on Lakehouse Field.

“It was a gorgeous day," Barbara said. "Everything went lovely. I couldn’t have asked for anything else.

“There were hundreds and hundreds of people on the field.”

This year was a particularly proud moment for Barbara, who saw her grandaughter, Leah Powell, return after her year as Rose Queen.

“She was really upset, she was crying quite a few times," Barbara said. "Everything went perfect this year for her.

“I was really, really proud.”

Barbara said Leah raised £800 for her chosen charity, St Luke’s Hospice.

The Weaverham Rose Feat committee chairman also gave special thanks to former committee member Richard Gorrall, who opened this year’s fete, and his wife Marjorie.
