THE manager of a visually impaired football club is raising money for his team.

Winsford Wolves manager Craig Acton, who is registered blind, will be walking 32 miles to raise funds for travel costs and accommodation for the players.

On August 26, Craig and a dedicated team of fundraisers will set off from Wharton Church and after an estimated 11 hours, will arrive at the Kinder Lodge in the Peak District.

He said: “We play the majority of our games in Birmingham, so raising money keeps us alive in terms of playing as a club.

“We survive on that so we’re constantly doing bag packs at the supermarkets and fundraising events to keep ourselves going.

“We play once a month, and we have to cover all of our own travel and accommodation costs.

“The initial goal is £250 but we want to go well above that.

“It’s all worth doing as we have a fantastic group of players, we’re like a family and we’d do anything for each other.

“Everyone involved is willing to help.”

This will be the club's third season in the British Blind Sport national league, where they finished second by a point in the previous two seasons.

Craig now hopes to go one better.

The 30-year-old said: “I’m desperate for us to get over the line now.

“Everyone’s put in so much work to get here so we’ve been very close but I’ve high hopes for the season ahead.”

The Wharton resident will be doing one long distance walk a week in the lead up to the event.

Craig set up Winsford Wolves in April 2015, and now operates it alongside secretaries Amanda Acton and Keir Welch.

They also have the backing of Winsford United.
