EMPLOYEES of Compass Minerals, which operates Winsford Salt Mine, came together to collect 162kg worth of food and £8,000 for the Mid Cheshire Foodbank.

The Mid Cheshire Foodbank, supported by The Trussell Trust, provides three days of emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis in Cheshire.

Employees from Compass Minerals donated 12 boxes of food, the equivalent of 162kg, to be given to families over the Christmas and New Year period.

Gordon Dunn, managing director of Compass Minerals said: “We are keen on supporting our local community. This is the second year that we have collected for and donated to the Mid Cheshire Foodbank, and our employees have been extremely generous in their donations.”

The company also raised more than £8,000 for the food bank with various fundraising events.

Mike McAuley, operations team leader at Compass Minerals and chair of Compass Minerals’ charity committee, said: “We have an active charity committee with employees who work closely with the local community.

“In addition to our support of the food bank, our employees have raised money through various fundraising events such as raffles, football matches and cake sales.

“All money raised from employee donations is matched at 50 per cent by the company, enabling the charity committee to coordinate donations of over £8,000 to local and national charities during the last two years.

“In addition, employees at Compass Minerals raise funds to support charity events including the Great Manchester Run and the Winsford 10K.

“Throughout the year, employees, their families and friends raised over £11,000 for charities. These include Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), St. Luke’s Cheshire Hospice, Bliss, The Christie, Epilepsy Research UK and Diabetes UK.”
