A THIEF who broke into Winsford United Football Club has been sent to jail for three months.

Lewis Goulding, 24, from Winsford, broke in to the Barton Stadium on Thursday, April 21.

He pleaded guilty to the burglary and was sent to jail for three months at Crewe Magistrates Court on Thursday, May 12.

Goulding had recently got out of prison for robbery and was still on license – meaning he will now also serve an extra month on top of the three ordered.

Sgt Simon Parker of Cheshire Police said: “We’re obviously happy to get him. He’s broke into the football club – a local club that means a lot to the community and the cost really affects them.

“This man is a repeat offender and we’re glad to get him back in prison.”

Goulding stole £200 worth of spirits from the football club.

Bob Astles, Winsford United Football Club secretary, said: “I don’t think these people realise the trouble and upset they cause.

“We want to thank the police for the time and effort they have put into this. They have taken this really seriously and worked really hard on it and made the arrest really quickly.

“It’s good news it keeps him in prison and away from this club and this town for a few months.”

Winsford United’s Barton Stadium was also broken into and heavily vandalised on Monday, May 2, and police are still investigating that incident.
