A WINSFORD charity that supports homeless women has been given a welcome cash-boost.

Cotswold House, which provides living accommodation for homeless women, has received £2,500 to improve the facilities.

The donation was provided by the Santander Foundation, which offers grants to UK registered charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

Angela Kandeh, Cotswold House service manager, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this grant from the Santander Foundation.

“The new facilities will make such a difference to improve the emotional wellbeing of our residents.”

Cotswold House provides accommodation for homeless women aged 16 to 36 years.

The grant will be used to decorate and refurbish two rooms; one will become a multi-purpose space, and the other an informal relaxing area.

Both rooms will be used to offer counselling, alternative therapies and various learning and support activities for the residents.

Cotswold House is one of Cllr Ailsa Gaskill-Jones, mayor of Winsford chosen charities of the year.

The Winsford branch of the Salvation Army is the mayor's second chosen charity.

Mark Baker, branch director at Santander’s Northwich branch said: “The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK.

“Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting Cotswold House, and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
