A PROSTATE cancer support group is urging Winsford men to attend a free testing session in the town.

Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group will be holding a blood testing event at Asda, The Drumber, Winsford, on November 14.

More than 40,000 men are diagnosed with the illness each year in the UK, many of whom do not show any symptoms.

Gary Steele, the Chairman of Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group, said: “The UK figures are staggering, more than one man dies every hour every day.”

The event is on from 10am until 1pm and is open to men aged 40 and above. Organisers have asked if those getting tested can make a donation of £10.

Currently 28 per cent of men diagnosed with prostate cancer are unable to be treated as the illness is too far advanced upon initial detection.

In order to decrease mortality rates, early diagnosis is essential.

Mr Steele added: “Ignorance may be bliss, but don’t die of it. Come along and get tested.”
