WINSFORD Academy will educate parents and pupils about the dangers of legal highs following a number of incidents in Cheshire.

On, Thursday, June 18, legal highs charity, Evolve NorthWest, will talk to the academy’s Year 9 and Year 10 pupils about the dangers of legal highs.

Cheshire police have recently issued warning after several incidents elsewhere in the county involving Vertex, which is also known as Space Cadet.

Police have responded to incidents in Warrington and Runcorn linked to Vertex, leading to three men and two women, including a 16-year-old girl, being taken to hospital.

The parent session will from 6pm to 7pm in the Winsford Academy Theatre.

A school spokesman said: “There will be a number of sessions on Thursday for pupils, staff and parents.

“We hope that the training will educate on the dangers, the symptoms and actions to take as well as deliver confidence in the local community that these issues are being recognised and tackled.

“We encourage all parents to attend, not just those of pupils in Year 9 and 10.

“Given the increasing seriousness of legal highs in the Cheshire area we hope that you will support us in attending this event.”
