TWO Winsford parents will host a fundraising event for a cleft lip and palate charity.

A cleft is a gap or split in the upper lip, the roof of the mouth (palate), or sometimes both.

It occurs when separate areas of the face do not join together properly when a baby is developing during pregnancy.

On Sunday, May 17, a coffee morning fundraiser will take place at Lakeside Caravan Park, Winsford at 11:30am.

There will be tombola prize draws, meet and greet with Spiderman and Cinderella as well as stalls selling various items.

The event is in aid of The Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA).

Carol-Ann Sullivan gave birth to Niamh, 4, in November 2010. She was born with cleft lip and palate.

Carol said: “My husband and I found a support group for the parents through CLAPA so not only could Niamh have support but so could we.

"CLAPA help thousands of parents and children across the UK.

"They are a charitable organisation we are hoping to raise money to help them with their research and ongoing support for children and families around the UK.

“Cleft lip and palate affects one in every 700 children, so many are unaware of this and try to go through it alone.”
