A WINSFORD mum with a spinal condition has shaved her head in aid of St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice.

Jill Wood, who has a spinal condition called myelopathy, made the bold decision to shave off her locks to raise funds and awareness for St Luke’s Hospice.

Jill wanted to take part in St Luke’s Year of Sport campaign, but her condition limits the amount of physical activity she can do.

St Luke’s Year of Sport campaign encourages members of the community to do something sporty or be a good sport for the hospice.

Jill said: “When I saw the post on Facebook about the Year of Sport campaign I thought ‘what can I do that isn’t physical’?

“So I decided I’ll shave my head for St Luke’s and donate my hair to the Little Princess Trust.”

Jill, 41, called on the help of her husband, Andrew Wood, and their four children, Zena, 15, Aidan 14, Daniel, 13 and Ruby, 10, to help her complete a charity head shave.

So far she has raised £420 for St Luke's Cheshire Hospice.

Her hair will be donated to The Little Princess Trust, which provides real-hair wigs, free of charge to children across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Jill said: “The kids had a great time on the day, taking it in turns chopping off my bunches and then my husband Andrew completed my look with clippers without a guard and then proceeded with a wet shave.

“It felt strange at first but I’m now getting used to it but I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone.”

She added: “Although I’ve not directly used the services from St Luke’s, I’m aware of the amazing job the hospice does for local people.

“I wanted to do something for the community and make a contribution. I just really wanted to help.”
