PRIMARY school children in Winsford got up and close and personal with some creepy crawlies and other critters to mark Science Week.

Pupils from St Chad’s C of E Primary School celebrated Science Week, which took place between March 16-20, with a visit from ‘Animals Take Over’.

Each class took part in a workshop, where they were introduced to the animals including a snake, scorpion, rat, barn owl, rabbit, tarantula and a bearded dragon among others.

The children were allowed to touch and hold some of the animals as part of workshops, which link to the curriculum.

Teacher, Hannah Morley, said: "It was great to see the children handling animals which they would probably only ever see if they went to a zoo.”

St Chad’s also welcomed some new additions to the school in the shape of 10 fluffy chicks, which hatched as part of a Living Egg scheme.

The week rounded off with all pupils and staff experiencing the solar eclipse.

Science co-ordinator, Jane Hough said: "It has been a great week for the whole school, we have had lots of different activities. There has been something for everyone.

“The children have been really excited and enthusiastic about all the activities we have had during this week, handling the animals has definitely been the highlight.”
