THE final route has been completed for the upcoming Walkabout Winsford event.

Winsford’s first ever Walkabout will kick off on Sunday, March 8, at Barton Stadium from 1pm.

The five-mile walk will take in local beauty spots including the Flashes and the community garden on the Greenfield Estate, and finishing off at the Red Lion pub.

Event organiser, Ailsa Gaskill-Jones, said: “The whole point of the walk is to show people everything the town council has done for the town, and I think route shows this well.

“It’s a very family friendly route. We’ve made it accessible for everyone.”

Alisa said it was only fitting for the walk to begin at Barton Stadium, home of Winsford United.

“The football club should be the hub of the town. It’s an opportunity to show it off to people who unaware it's even there.”

Winsford United vice-chairman David Taylor said the decision to begin the walk at Barnton Stadium simply ‘made sense’.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer our facilities,” he said. “The town council are the main sponsors of the football club, so anything we could do for them just made sense.

“When they get here on the day they can have a cup of coffee in the club and then we’ll give them a tour.

“We’re also planning on doing a warm up on the pitch depending on the weather. There will also be a group who will be playing some live music.”

My Taylor also hopes the club’s exposure will help bring some more fans to come and get behind their local team.

“Some people don’t even know we have a football club in Winsford,” he said.

“We need people to support the club to keep club going. It’s a community club but we want to open it to the town. It’s hard work to keep it up to standard.

“So the more people who know about it the better it is for us.”

All the proceeds from the stroll will go towards Winsford Town Mayor’s chosen charities, the NeuroMuscular Centre and Christians Against Poverty.
