A WINSFORD primary school tried the show its young puncs that learning about punctuation can be fun.

Year two pupils at St Chad’s C of E Primary School in Winsford had an assembly to remember when they were introduced to ‘The Puncs’.

The Puncs help children learn about punctuation through repetition and the use of colourful story books.

Year one teacher, Hannah Morley, said: “Meeting the Puncs helped raise awareness of punctuation very quickly.

“The children were extremely receptive and had loads of fun, which is what learning should be about.”

During the assembly the children met the characters Alec Apostrophe, Fergus Full Stop, Henrietta Hyphen-Hyphen, Ethel Exclamation Mark, Quentin Question Mark and Colin Comma.

The characters then visited the classes and read their unique story to the children, which gave them understandable examples of punctuation in a lively, interesting and witty way.

After the assembly Year two parents were invited to a meeting to find out more about The Puncs, to enable them to support their children.

The parents also received a free set of books to help carry on the learning at home.

Assistant Headteacher, Alyson Thompson, added: “This was a great way of bringing learning to life in a fun informative way.”
