IT’S out with the old and in with the new for a Winsford residential home after they replaced their ageing furniture – most of which had been there since it opened its doors 30 years ago.

Willow Court, owned by Alpha Homes, in the Wharton area of Winsford, provides sheltered accommodation for the over 55’s.

The care home was recently granted almost £10,000 after a successfull lottery bid, which they have used to purchase new furnishings for the lounge and dining room.

One of the home’s residents, Hilda Latham, 93, from Winsford, says the makeover was well overdue.

“It’s very nice. The dining room is beautiful. The other furniture was quite old. I’ve been here for 14 years and it’s been here all that time,” she said.

“It’s really lovely now. Everyone seems quite happy. You always get the odd one who likes to complain, you know what men are like. But on the whole everyone is delighted.”

Beryl Dixon, 78, originally from Liverpool, has lived in Winsford for 47 years and remembers the home when it was being built – and the furniture that went with it all those years ago.

“We had these trestle tables and terrible chairs but now we have these lovely tables,” she said.

“It was well in need of a makeover. I watched the place being built 30 years ago, and it has all the same furniture from back then.”

Gina Owen, 70, originally from Scotland but has lived in Winsford for 48 years, said: “It’s beautiful, so much more homely and the dining room is absolutely brilliant.

“The night we got it we all sat in the dining room with a cup of tea and it was simply fantastic.

“I don’t have any complaints at all, it’s so much better than it used to be. It’s going to make such a big difference.”

All of the old furniture has been donated to the mental health Mid-Cheshire Mind.

“We’re extremely grateful Willow Court’s donation of furniture," a spokeswoman for Mid-Cheshire Mind said.

“As a self-supporting charity every little helps, so we were delighted to receive such a generous donation.”
