THE A54 in Winsford will be closed from 7pm tonight for the weekend.
The closure is to allow United Utilities to carry out emergency repairs.
A signed diversion will be in place via the B5074 Delamere Street.
A council spokesman said the closure was likely to lead to delays in the area.
A spokesman from Cheshire West and Chester Council conformed: "The A54 near the Police Headquarters in Winsford is being closed from 7pm because of a water main burst.
"Council engineers have been told that the stretch of road could be closed all weekend so that repairs can be carried out by United Utilities.
"There will be a signed local diversion via the B5074 Delamere Street and there will be delays.
"At present temporary signals are in place on site and delays are likely."
