THE ice bucket challenge has spread to Winsford – with a local supermarket challenging their retail rivals to complete the fundraising craze.

Morrisons employees got a soaking for the Sue Ryder charity and have now suggested their comrades at Asda across town follow their lead.

“There were a large number of spectators that were highly entertained at the reactions of staff,” said employee, Patrick Melody.

“One staff member had one of the worst challenges seen, by taking six buckets of water all at once, before staff succeeded in throwing her into the larger ice bucket.

“We would like to thank the kind generosity of customers for their donations.

“Finally as part of the challenge, we have to nominate a next contestant, so we of Morrisons Winsford challenge ASDA Winsford to the Ice Bucket Challenge!”

Elsewhere in town, staff at Foodcraft in High Street accepted 13 buckets of ice from Morrisons to complete their own challenge, and donated funds raised to New Images Youth Club.

The ice bucket challenge began as a fundraiser for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in America.

Typically, it sees participants dump a bucket full of ice over their head before passing the challenge on to another via social media.
