RAILWAY lines around Winsford are like a ‘blocked artery’ according to business campaigners fighting for HS2 to be extended to Liverpool.
The 20 Miles More campaign think the current proposals for the £42.6 billion railway line won’t create any extra capacity north of Crewe, and won’t fix the ‘bottleneck’ on the West Coast Main Line between Winsford and Weaver Junction.
While arguing for HS2 to be extended to Liverpool in order for the city to avoid ‘economic stroke’, the campaign group argues that doing nothing with the existing rail network around Winsford won’t bring any capacity benefits for locals.
It follows Winsford MP Stephen O’Brien’s calls for more to be invested in existing rail infrastructure.
