THIS weekend saw Middlewich step back in time for the town’s first ever nostalgia success.

From masquerade dancers jiving in the street to a scooter ride-out and an array of musicians, onlookers were dazzled from start to finish throughout the two-day event.

The weekend also hosted the biggest artisan market to date with over 60 food, drink, art and craft stalls set up along Wheelock Street.

Middlewich events manager DaveThomson added: “The weekend was filled with entertainment. The Bull Ring was again full of enthusiastic dancing, especially the pupils from the Masquerade School of Performing Arts, and with the backdrop of the scooters, what a show!

“They also danced in between the market stalls on Wheelock Street, there was simply no stopping them!”

An eclectic range of music was performed throughout the two-day event from the blues and jazz to country folk and traditional twists.

Dave added: “I’d like to thank everyone who took part in what was a fantastic event. The concerts by Emperors of Rhythm and Bactrax were excellent and ably supported by DJ Jivin Jim.”

Middlewich Rock & Rollers who also provided the entertainment at the Artisan Market performed on Friday night at the Town Hall.

Derek Millington, a rock & roll dancer said: “They were top class performers who have been rock & rolling for years and years. There was a great atmosphere.”

The Town Major Bernice Walmsley who attended both evenings would like to see the event repeated. “Anyone who didn’t come and join in the fun missed a treat,” she said.

“DJ Jivin’ Jim did a splendid job and the live music was brilliant. I’d like to see this sort of event repeated, perhaps combining the 50s and 60s, and many of the people who came from far and wide asked me about making this a regular event.

“With the Town Hall’s superb dance floor we’ve got a real asset for the town and we need to make the most of it but we can only do that if people are prepared to come and support the events.”

The weekend raised over £200 for the Town Mayor’s chosen charities.
