POLICE in Northwich apprehended two men believed to be involved in drug activity after they attempted make off from officers in a car.

PSCOs travelling on bikes stopped a silver saloon in Wier Street yesterday, Thursday August 8.

Two men from Winsford, who police believed to be involved in drugs activity, were travelling in the vehicle.

PCSOs requested back up from other officers, whereupon the driver of the car attempted to make off.

Police stop checked the vehicle on the spine road in Kingsmead a short time later. Both men and the car were searched but nothing incriminating found.

The stop-check illustrated the usefulness of bicycles to PCs and PCSOs in the fight against crime.

A spokesman for Nortwich police said: “They are absolutely brilliant. Especially in Northwich, which has narrow streets, sometimes inaccessible to cars, they are an invaluable tool for us.”

The spokesman added: “Northwich police will continue to target suspected drug activity in Nortwhich and seek to take positive action wherever necessary.

“Anyone with information on the use or supply of drugs in Northwich should call the police non emergency number 101.”
