A PROPOSAL to develop a new housing estate on the site of a major rail manufacturer in Crewe has been submitted to planning chiefs.

A planning application to build 143 dwellings on land at Bambardier Transportations, south of Dunwoody Way, has gone before Cheshire East Council.

The Countryside Properties proposal comprises 94 new two bed houses, 25 new three bed houses and 24 new one bedroom apartments on a 2.65 hectare plot.

The development would sit on land presently occupied by a car park, maintenance buildings and small offices.

The plan involves the demolition of the Victorian building, built in 1902, that sits opposite Westside DVD on the A532.

Documents supporting the application state that ‘a pre-application meeting took place with officers of Cheshire East Council and a letter followed confirming their favourable response to our proposals’.

Countryside Properties say their plans ‘aim to produce a development that fits in and complements the existing character of the area’.

“High quality, site-specific designs produce an interesting and varied street scene creating a distinctive place to live,” they add.

The proposals go before the Southern Planning Committee in September, and include a road at the southern tip of the development earmarked as ‘access to potential future development’.
