A PARADE of motorbikes will pass through Northwich during the August Bank Holiday weekend despite official plans hitting a stumbling block.

Organisers of the four-day Northwich Festival were hoping a cavalcade of classic vehicles would be the centrepiece of this year’s event.

But plans were dashed after they received a letter from solicitors acting on behalf of Thundersprint Ltd raising issues of trade mark and copyright infringement connected with the cavalcade.

The Guardian understands that this relates to the use of the name ‘Thundersprint’ in festival publicity.

But now Northwich man Ben Butterworth is organising a charity Butty Run around the town centre on Sunday, August 25.

His initial plans are for bikes to complete three laps of the town to celebrate the inaugral Northwich Bike Festival, which is part of this year’s Northwich Festival.

Ben said: “I’ve been involved in motorbikes for 45 years and run events and bike meetings for charity all around Northwich, including at The Three Greyhounds, The Whipping Stocks and J&S, which have had between 4,000 and 5,000 people there.

“The plan is for riders to have a bacon butty and then do three laps of the town centre.”

He has organised a meeting at Witton Albion Football Club, in Wincham, at 7pm tomorrow, Thursday, for anyone interested in getting involved.

“Anyone with an interest in holding a motorbike parade or anyone with any questions should turn up – let’s see what we can do,” he said.
