Match Pointers
NORTHWCH Victoria host Whitby Town for the first time in a league encounter looking to bounce back from Monday’s derby defeat at Nantwich Town.

Andy Preece hopes to call on fit-again stopper Matthew Brown, who has sat out the past two matches with a back injury.

Front man John McAliskey made a goalscoring return to action as a second half substitute in the 2-1 reverse at the Weaver Stadium, enhancing his case for a first start since switching to Northwich from Altrincham in the summer.

Vics have won each of their past four home league matches, including success against Bradford Park Avenue and Hucknall Town this season.

That leaves them fourth in the standings.

In contrast visitors Whitby have lost their past half dozen away matches in the Premier Division, failing to win on any of their past 11 road trips in the league dating back to February.

They have found the net only once in their last seven games away from the Turnbull Ground, nor have they scored in visits to Worksop Town and Buxton so far this term.

Blues will give a late fitness test to goalkeeper Nick Liversedge (hand) after he missed Bank Holiday Monday’s draw with Frickley Athletic due to injury. Veteran Dave Campbell stands by.

Three others – defensive duo Kevin Burgess (calf) and Ibby Hassan (knee) plus new front man Jamie Owens (toe) – are doubts too.

On-loan York City striker Jamie Hopcutt is an alternative to play alongside former Middlesborough front man in attack if Owens does not play.
