Match Pointers
NORTHWICH Victoria take on their league rivals looking to win their first FA Trophy match in more than two years.

Vics’ last victory in the competition was the second leg of their semi final clash with Kidderminster Harriers in March 2007, a game they won 3-2 only to lose the tie on aggregate.

With next weekend’s FA Cup clash with Lincoln City looming, it will be fascinating to see what team Andy Preece picks to take on the Fishermen.

Top scorer Mark Danks is banned, so Jon Newby is likely to deputise in attack, while Junior Brown (ankle) is not ready to return. Short of match fitness, Danny Meadowcroft is unlikely to be risked either.

Wayne Riley continues to push for a starting shirt as an alternative to Lee Elam in attack or one of the midfield trio of Michael Connor, Ian Herring or Jon D’Laryea.

They face the daunting task of bidding to become the first team to beat Fleetwood in front of their own fans in any competition this season.

To date a dozen opponents have tried, and failed.

Vics fans will be familiar with one face in particular – wing man Jamie Mullan – while Gareth Seddon was a one-time transfer target for Dino Maamria in 2008.

Ex-Witton Albion goals-getter Adam Warlow is likely to lead the hosts’ attack and has 10 goals to his name already this term. Midfield enforcer Steven Connors – another who used to play across the canal at Wincham Park – is battling his way back from an ankle injury.

Former Aston Villa full back Alan Wright will not feature though as he has been given permission to play in a Masters tournament in Asia for Sheffield United. John Hills stands by.
