FORMER Vics wide man Jamie Mullan comes face-to-face with his old teammates at Highbury tomorrow, writes Derick Thomas.

The 21-year-old left Northwich in the summer following their relegation from non-league’s top tier, ending an 18-months stay at the Victoria Stadium.

But he insists there will be no time for sentiment in Saturday’s FA Trophy third qualifying round clash.

“I had some good times there but I’m a Fleetwood player now and will be concentrating on a home result,” he said this week.

“The game on Saturday will be interesting for me.

“I’ve not seen any of the team since leaving [Northwich] but the manager kept hold of a few of the players and it will be good to say hello to them.”

Mullan made more than 50 appearances in league and cup for Vics after joining from Rochdale in January 2008, scoring his only goal in his final game for the club in a 2-1 win at Oxford United.

He was one of the first players to depart in the summer, although the two clubs have yet to agree a fee for his transfer to Lancashire.

Instead an FA tribunal will name the price Micky Mellon has to pay for the ex-Manchester United junior’s services.

Mullan is performing well on the pitch for the Fishermen and played a big part in last Saturday’s 8-0 mauling of Redditch United in Blue Square North.

“The result last weekend lifted the whole club,” he said.

“I’m enjoying my football at Fleetwood and I’m in the middle of a good run in the side.

“Micky Mellon brought me here to play wide and that’s just what I’m doing.

“Putting the ball out to the wide men and then into the box is a big part of our style. We produce good football and a tidy, passing game.”

But Mullan, who has helped his team to sixth in the standings, knows he can’t be complacent about a place in the starting line-up.

“We have a big, strong squad and everyone knows if you don’t pull your weight then someone is waiting on the bench to take over,” he added.

“Fortunately the crowd at Highbury always helps and does make up that extra player.

“Being cheered on is great and the supporters have taken to me. I hope that carries on and I can do a good job in our promotion push.”
