ANOTHER key weekend lies ahead for our semi-professional football sides this weekend.

Witton Albion and 1874 Northwich both play at home tomorrow, with Northwich Victoria and Barnton both on the road.

Witton's latest attempt to secure their first win of 2022 sees them welcome in-form Scarborough Athletic to the U Lock It Stadium.

Carl Macauley's men are four points adrift of safety in the Northern Premier League Premier Division and a 3-1 loss to South Shields in midweek stretched their winless run to seven league outings.

By contrast, Saturday's visitors are flying having lost just one of their past nine league games to charge into the play-off spots.

The sides have met twice already this season in Yorkshire, with both teams winning a game each.

Albion were 2-0 victors in an FA Cup tie in September before losing 3-2 to the Seadogs in the reverse league fixture in October.

Across town at Townfield, 1874 Northwich will look to build on last week's impressive 4-0 win at Colne as they host Prescot Cables in the NPL West Division.

Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison's side are 11th in the table but are looking to avoid a third straight home loss, with their last two games on their own turf ending in defeats to promotion-chasing pair Workington and Runcorn Linnets.

Prescot arrive aiming for a third win in a row as they try to move away from relegation trouble.

In the North West Counties League, Steve Wilkes takes his Northwich Victoria side to face his former club Padiham, with whom he spent more than a decade in the managerial hotseat.

Vics are unbeaten in 2022 with two wins and a draw since the turn of the year as they sit seventh in the Premier Division table.

Their hosts have won just twice on home soil this season, although one of them was in their last outing – a 2-1 victory over Avro on January 15.

In the First Division South, Barnton leave the mainland to take on FC Isle of Man in a game that kicks off at 6.30pm.

The Villagers cross the Irish Sea in good form, with their 4-1 win over Rocester last time out taking their unbeaten league run to seven matches.

However, extending that record will be tough with their hosts having won eight of their 10 home fixtures this season.
