WITH a hero returning and their latest pre-season friendly boxed off, things are building nicely at 1874 Northwich.

Aaron Smith – the man who scored the winning goal in the 2018-19 Macron Cup Final against City of Liverpool – is confirmed to have returned to the club for the coming season.

He played as a trialist in a friendly against Prestwich Heys last Tuesday, scoring twice in a 5-3 victory.

He also came on as a substitute on Saturday as 1874 beat Golcar United 1-0 in their latest pre-season match, with Scott McGowan scoring the winner from the penalty spot.

Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison’s side have two more friendlies this week as they prepare for their Macron Cup Final date with Runcorn Town on September 26.

They travel to Vauxhall Motors tomorrow while AFC Liverpool will host them on Saturday.
