MIDDLEWICH residents have played their part in a junior football team being able to benefit from a cash boost.

A donation is heading the way of Middlewich Town FC under eights, after being picked out by shoppers as a worthy recipient.

Jack’s supermarket, part of the Tesco family, launched its Jack’s Supports scheme to donate proceeds from the sale of carrier bags to good causes voted for by its customers.

For the past three months shoppers at Jack’s Middlewich have been voting for four worthy causes – Central Cheshire, The Joshua Tree, Middlewich Town FC and South Cheshire Pensioners Association Buddy Scheme.

Middlewich Town FC under eights secured the £750 donation after receiving 35 percent of the votes.

All four charities received £250 for taking part, with the football juniors receiving the additional £500 following the round of voting.

Matt Hitchen, head coach of Middlewich Town FC under 8s, said: “We’re going to use Jack's donation to buy a new kit for next season, the one we had this year was handed down and is a few years old now.

"I must also stress how grateful we are to Jacks for this opportunity and of course to the people of Middlewich for voting for us to win.”

The team consists of 21 players who recently started playing this season.

The club runs 11 teams covering age groups from under eights through to under 18s.

Darren Preston, Jack’s Middlewich store manager, said: “We launched Jack’s Supports to give something back to the local communities that have supported us since our launch.

"Each of the charities involved in the scheme does fantastic work in the local area, and we’re delighted that we are in a position to be able to offer our support.”

Another football club are set to benefit, too.

To protect the safety of customers and colleagues and maintain social distancing measures, Jack’s has temporarily removed it’s voting units.

However, worthy causes will not miss out on vital funding as a result of this.

During this time Jack’s will donate an additional £250 to each charity due to participate in this round of the scheme, bringing the total to £500 for each charity.

The worthy causes are Middlewich Centurions FC, 1st Lostock Gralam Scout Group, Middlewich Rose Fete and Sunrise Nursery Northwich.
