THE non-league and grassroots football season in the UK is over due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
1874 Northwich were in a good position to win the North West Counties title and gain promotion, and along with Witton Albion and Northwich Victoria were still involved in late stages of cup competitions.

But the season's records have now been expunged, and clubs can start to turn their attentions to preparing for next season.
Here's how football supporters have been responding to today's announcement by the FA:
Totally flattened by todays announcement by the FA. 😞

The spare time & effort that went into everything we have done since last summer for it to be scrubbed from history is utterly heartbreaking. The motivation for next season is floored right now. Thank you and take care pic.twitter.com/EPQU3PmePq
Feel for clubs who were on the verge of winning promotions. It's very tough on them. But can't see a fairer way of deciding it.

The 2019-20 has been officially brought to a close after today’s @nwcfl announcement and NVFC would like to thank @stevewilkes1 and his management team, our players and to all our amazing volunteers & incredible fans who have given their all during 2019-20. Stay Safe 💚

We understand the disappointment, frustration and everything else that comes with the decision made this afternoon.
— The NWCFL (@nwcfl) March 26, 2020
But please understand that there's a lot more important things going on, so please be kind to each other.

Exactly, keep safe, stay home. This situation is bigger than football, let hope all is ok for everyone to enjoy the game again next season! 👍⚽️💚 https://t.co/Di9Ej6waVk

I’d like 2 thank all my players and staff for the season just gone. I’ll be the first 2 admit how disappointed I am with results this season, we simply, me included, weren’t good enough. A shout out to the noisiest fans in league. Thanks for your continued support see you soon 💚

Can someone explain to me what. is forcing the non-league divisions to void the season ? We’ve been down there with @SalfordCityFC for 5 years so we have some experience of it and I don’t get it !! Help 🤷🏻♂️
— Gary Neville (@GNev2) March 26, 2020
I’d also like to say to everyone, please stay safe. Look after your family and hopefully we can get through all this together. Take Care #ziggazagga 💚⚽️💚

“My immediate football-related thoughts go to clubs like @1874Northwich who were nailed on for promotion...and @Vauxhallmotorfc, who had actually already clinched promotion from the division below. These clubs must feel a sense of despair and I really do feel for them.”

As 2019-20 has been officially brought to a close at our level, we'd like to thank all the players, management, coaches, physio, volunteers & supporters who have given their all during 2019-20.
— Witton Albion Football Club (@WittonAlbion) March 26, 2020
Stay safe & healthy and we'll be back on the pitch when we're able to.

Will this adversely affect our financial position? I'm not disputing that it is the right decision, but I am thinking of lost gate receipts vs wages/costs.

Here @WinsfordUnited. The Board would like to thank our management team and playing squad for all their hard work over the last 8/9mths. Also all of our staff/volunteers without whom the club wouldn’t survive. Biggest thank-you to our fans, who traveled home and away. COYB 💙.

Devastated for you guys. I’ve been championing your promotion push all season. Your clearly the best team in the league and were going to win it.

So so undeserved
Shocking decision and absolutely gutted it’s ended this way. Loved every minute of this season. Up the @1874Northwich https://t.co/D5GIla4tzH

Disappointed doesn't quite do my reaction justice.

I'd have preferred to keep this season going until completion whenever & after a break had a truncated 20-21 season. Messing up a season before it starts seems fairer than messing one up 75% completed.
But then I'm not the FA
A big thank you to all loyal supporters of the blues!!! Disappointing way to end a season but probably the most sensible decision. https://t.co/PzLwW0tfDO
