THE VICS COLUMN - By Pete Tonge

WELL, another week without any football due to this continuing dismal weather causing our fixture against Winsford United to be called off.

So with no football to report on, we take a look at three of our longest serving players at the club.

Matty Clarke, who first joined in August 2015, is the only player still playing for Vics from before the club was taken over by the fans.

He did have a short spell away in the 2016/17 season before rejoining in November 2017.

Matty is “One of Our Own” being a Northwich lad and a Vics fan.

He has established himself this season as an important player in our midfield, after being in and out of the team and is a firm fans’ favourite with his hardworking, tough tackling commitment.

The current player with the most appearance for Vics is Brandon Barski with well over 100.

Brandon was one of our manager Steve Wilkes’ first signings and made his debut in a 5-3 win at Hanley Town in November 2017.

He had played for Steve at Padiham, and soon showed why he made him one of the first signings by winning the Supporter’s Player of the Season Award for 2017/18, a feat which he repeated in 2018/19, a reward for his 100 percent committed displays.

Although best at centre back, he is equally capable on the left side of defence, and has a good habit of scoring important goals on his forays forward.

Brandon has formed a great partnership with his fellow centre-back Kieron Kenny, who made his debut in the same match as Brandon at Hanley having returned to England from a spell in Australia.

Kieron made an immediate impact, giving Vics the lead with a headed goal in the third minute.

He also has the distinction of scoring the decisive penalty in Vics’ Mid-Cheshire Cup Final win over rivals Winsford United last season.

In a season of many changes, it’s good to have a bit of stability, and hopefully we can use the rest of this season to build up for next season, and hopefully retain the Mid-Cheshire Cup in the process.

This is all on the proviso that it actually stops raining sometime before May!

NEXT MATCHES: Saturday, away to Irlam; Tuesday, away to Barnoldswick Town.
