WINSFORD Saxons remain undefeated in the Crewe and District League Premier Division this year after a 5-1 win against Mary Dendy on Saturday.

Gary Lee Jamieson's side ran away with things in the second half, after turning round 1-1.

Callum Nowell notched his first goal for the team, skipper John Buckley netted while Jaymie Roberts, Joe Standish and Zak Finnigan also got in on the act.

"We won 5-1, but we felt it could quite easily have been that scoreline at half time if it hadn't been for poor finishing," said Jamieson.

"Dendy sat in and we could see they wanted to frustrate us. It was very much attack versus defence from the off."

Kane Ode had a goal disallowed after 10 minutes, but he didn't let that get to him and cut in from the right before being brought down in the box, with Roberts scoring the resulting penalty.

"We continued to dominate the game, however on a rare counter Dendy scored a brilliant strike into the top corner on the stroke of half-time," added Jamieson.

"We knew what we were doing was working, it was just a matter of finishing the moves off. Second half we did just that."

Standish latched on to a through ball from Roberts and neatly flicked the ball past the goalkeeper with the post being touched on the way in.

Nowell, who replaced Standish up top and immediately became a menace with his brilliant link-up play, scored when his brilliantly whipped free kick found its way into the bottom corner.

The goals then started to flow.

Buckley burst out of defence with the ball, cutting past two Dendy players in midfield before firing into the bottom corner from 25 yards out for 4-1.

Soon after, Stephen Snape had a brilliant strike cleared off the line after superb play from him and fellow second-half sub Cealan Penketh cut open the Dendy defence. On-rushing midfielder Finnigan, who had dominated the game, was on hand to score his third of the season after the clearance fell to him 10 yards out.
